I so often feel completly out of the loop with mainstream parents. We breastfeed cause our kids both refused them. We cosleep about 1/2 the time because it makes our lives easier and our kids happier. We feed our kids real food and let them feed themselves because I’m too cheap to buy purees and too lazy to spoon feed them. We try to use gentle discipline with the kids because yelling and other harsh punishment just equals way too much screaming, energy, and often don’t give us the result we are looking for. I baby wear and let Lil walk most places because I can’t stand screaming kids in strollers, they are too bulky and letting Lil explore encourages learning, independence, encourages following instructions/listening and ultimately wears her out. 🙂
Well, now we are starting to embark on our newest endevour…homeschooling. Lil is bright, and high energy so I know this will keep us busy but I’m sooooooo excited! I found an easy way to organize weekly activities, getting some websites organized, looking into a cool thing called Schaumburg House for next year & getting some materials from local moms. As pathetic as this may sound, this is one of the most exciting things we’ve done for the kids. Knowing that we have the tools at our fingertips to educate our children and that I’ll be able to see their progress is just awesome 🙂
This week we have been working with fine motor skills! We’ve made and painted necklaces (also a sensory and color learning activity), filled balloons with lots of stuff and she could squish/play/throw them, made flowers out of popsicle sticks and construction paper. This has been a fun week! Next week hasn’t been completly solidified for activities, we need a library visit. And I mean, come on, she’s only two ;). The real fun will start next year!!!
At any rate, this is just the beginning and Lil seems as excited as I am 🙂 I know that won’t always last. Here’s to hoping we can continue to keep learning fun for them. 🙂
